I would remiss if I did not take a moment to publicly thank Pastor Rob Godard, the Elders and leaders of Cloverdale Baptist Church for once again hosting our annual West Coast Conference in Cloverdale, British Columbia. Pastor Godard has put together a fine team of servants who made our weekend a joy and delight with their meticulous attention to detail and their tireless zeal to serve.
In just over two days we will be once again back on the West Coast at Cloverdale Baptist Church. This year we will be featuring Dr. Carl Trueman giving four talks on the Life and Times of Martin Luther. 2017 is right around the corner and those of with Reformed leanings will be celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. We thought we get in on the fun a little early.
We are pleased to announce that at long last Sola Scriptura will be back in London, Ontario on Saturday November 19, 2016. Over the past year or so, we have received a number of inquiries asking us to visit London again. It seemed like the right thing to do so our old friend Dr. Joseph Pipa will make a return visit.
There is no question that freedom of religion, one of the cornerstones of North American civilization, has been under assault both in Canada and the United States. Most recently, an Ontario court ruled that law degrees granted by Trinity Western in British Columbia would not be recognized in the province of Ontario. The reasoning has to do with its confessional adherence to biblical standards on the subject of homosexuality. Carl Trueman points to a recent law in the state of Iowa that would punish churches for teaching or preaching biblical standards that could be seen as oppressive to minorities. Obviously, what the law has in view is any talk or doctrine that would seek to undermine the LGBT agenda.
Dear Friends ,
“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven” – Psalm 119:89
I am so grateful that the Word of God reminds us all that His commandments, His decrees, His promises and His eternal will is not subject to change, arbitration, flights of fancy and caprice. It has been settled, the final outcome has been determined and yes nothing that is happening in our culture has taken God by surprise.
I have been updating our new Facebook account over the last few weeks. It is interesting to share what is going on in the world around us. As you read how the Church intersects culture on different fronts, you sometimes can’t help but get drawn into the apparent gloom and despair that seems to be rampant. There is much to despair over.
Universities have billed themselves as institutions where young men and women can come to learn. The free exchange of ideas is one of the sacred mantras that have allowed many unsavory and questionable philosophies to gain ground in the minds of our populace. One would think that the free exchange of ideas would cut both ways allowing Christian, Secular, Atheist or whatever to voice their views. This has been the case for many years.
